Workforce Development
At Phoenix CDS, we believe that stable employment is a critical step toward long-term independence. Our Workforce Development program supports individuals in re-entering the workforce through personalized guidance, skills training, and real-world job experience. Using Individualized Employment Plans (IEPs), we work alongside each person to create realistic, meaningful goals—whether that means landing a first job, changing careers, or going back to school.
Workforce Development is available to anyone living in our supportive housing, actively working with our outreach team, or currently experiencing homelessness in the greater Peoria area.
Education, Certification, and Qualifications
We provide a variety of workshops designed to build the soft skills needed for employment success. While we offer a wide range of topics, we focus heavily on three skills we find to be most impactful in the workplace:
Time Management
Communication
Conflict Resolution
We also support educational advancement. Through our partnership with the Peoria Public Library, participants can enroll in digital literacy classes and gain comfort with essential technology. For those pursuing academic goals, we help individuals connect to GED programs or even return to college when it fits within their IEP.
In addition, we coordinate external referrals for certifications that increase employability, such as, Food Handler’s Licenses, Forklift Certifications, and other short-term vocational trainings.
GPEAK Certifications
Phoenix CDS integrates GPEAK, a soft skills credential recognized by over 80 employers in the Greater Peoria region. GPEAK focuses on traits like adaptability, problem-solving, and professionalism—all of which are essential for long-term success in any job. By earning this certification, our participants gain a competitive edge and demonstrate their readiness to employers.
Maintaining Employment
Once participants find employment, our Employment Navigator works closely with them to ensure a smooth transition. From job coaching to on-the-job support, we stay connected through the first 90 days of employment—a critical window for long-term job retention. The Employment Navigator may even attend a few shifts alongside the individual to provide hands-on encouragement and guidance.
If you're an employer in the Greater Peoria area, we’d love to partner with you to connect qualified, supported candidates with your workforce needs. Please reach out to us at to learn more about partnership opportunities.
